English Country Manor House
Feel yourself transported to the English countryside as you walk up the pea stone gravel drive, taking in the lovely landscaped grounds of this English manor style home. From the pitched slate roof to the brick and stone exterior, attention to detail is evident. Enter by way of the arched portico and similarly arched solid mahogany door.
The Living Room, on the left, features beautiful views of the patio and backyard descending to a creek running through woods. Casement windows throw light on the sage green walls and built-in bookcases set in maroon beadboard. The iron chandelier coordinates with a wrought iron stair railing and other light fixtures throughout the home.
Cross the Foyer to ascend the stairs, noting the 200-year old steamer trunk purchased in London. At the top of the stairs, natural light flows through casement windows illuminating the upstairs hallway. At the far end, enter the Daughter's Room, with pale pink walls, a lovely bright sitting area, and en suite bath with marble floor and countertop. Exit to the right and enter the Son's Room, where golf rules! Windows on three sides throw light on built-in bookshelves and desk, and a black sleigh bed and red rug. Retrace your steps and enter the Master Bedroom, with recessed windows framing the bed, and a gorgeous elevated view of the property's landscape. The fabrics on the bed are English and the armoire is French.
Descending the stairs, enter the Dining Room, painted a rich shade of cinnamon, and featuring French doors with sweeping white window treatments. The Duncan Phyfe table is mahogany and the artwork includes antiqued maps and prints.
Cross the hall to descend the stairs to the Lower Level, featuring a Guest Bedroom with iron frame bed and en suite bath, as well as a well-outfitted Exercise Room. The oak floored hallway opens to an expansive Recreation Room with natural light from casement windows on two sides. Note the stone fireplace, pool table, and the bar featuring granite countertops over beadboard cabinetry.
Returning to the main level, enter the elegant Kitchen, with accompanying Butler's Pantry, featuring Carrara marble countertops, black cabinets, and a hammered stainless sink in the center island. Workspace abounds! An Office is easily hidden behind a discreet pocket door. The Kitchen opens to the Family Room, continuing the pale yellow walls and recessed lighting of the Kitchen, built-in cabinetry, and great views. The Back Hall is remarkably elegant with ceramic tile floor resembling stone, and walls painted Plymouth Brown. This beautiful yet functional space leads to a side patio perfect for reading the morning paper, and to the very private Guest Bedroom Suite. Above the Hall is a lovely sitting area designed for relaxation. The bedroom reflects gracious and lovely English décor – fabrics in blues, yellows, and creams, and marble bath with blue and white wallpaper. If you can pull yourself away, exit the Back Hall to the front drive, feeling as though you have spent a glorious weekend in the English countryside.
